A CHAT WITH THE BBC ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE PANDEMIC
On Monday evening Fran Hubbard, our CEO at the Big Smoke Events Company was a guest speaker on the BBC Radio London, talking about all things current, and future of our business in a post-pandemic world. The importance of reacting and adapting in order to pull through our current situation was the main focus of the conversation between the three speakers.
Hosted by Jo Good, actress and broadcaster, and co-hosted by the entrepreneur and writer Alison Cork, the interview was a heart to heart conversation focusing on the fragility of small businesses affected by Covid-19.
These difficult times are challenging for all businesses and might have been detrimental to their prosperity, but Fran was focused on the positives and how they can also prompt us to think outside of the box, get creative and reinvent ourselves and our products. As they say, “necessity is the mother of invention!”
Ingenuity and creativity, as Fran said, are vital in overcoming and conquering the many obstacles a business will encounter are pivotal traits that can make a business owner successful and strive in times of crisis. After a first period of adjustment and quite frankly shock - were we had to adapt our lives, behaviors and routines to fit this “new normal” - the world has become more open minded about how things can be done and no longer feel the necessity of a daily tête-à-tête in the office.
What will linger in the post-pandemic world, is our innate need for social interaction and the feeling of belonging. The Big Smoke Events, having as its core product an outdoor event which bolsters that fun human interaction and coaction between people, had to be agile and responsive in adapting to the circumstances.
As a small business we have had to adapt our core offering to fit in with new regulations that dictate and oversee not only how businesses and events are run, but also how and how much we interact with each other. Being ahead of the curve and promptly offering virtual events that perpetuate that human need of socializing has allowed us to pull through and reinvent ourselves.
